“Day of Co-Responsibility” at one of Mexico’s largest universities promotes gender equality at home and at work

MenCare partner Cómplices por la Equidad participated in a “Day of Co-Responsibility” on June 16, 2017 at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), one of Mexico’s largest polytechnic universities. Building on the MenCare campaign’s advocacy for gender equality in paid and unpaid work, this event created a safe space within the university community for reflection on gender-equitable participation both in the workplace and at home, emphasizing the importance of men’s unpaid care work.

The Day of Co-Responsibility included a keynote lecture by Dr. Alejandra Salguero Velázquez of the Facultad de Estudios Superiores (FES)-Iztacala on men’s participation in care work at home, a panel discussion on how sharing responsibility in the home advances equality, and various group activities encouraging gender-equitable attitudes.

Over 500 people attended the event; participants included teachers, administrative and managerial staff, students, and the general public.
