Banner for "“Fatherhood and Gender-Equitable Parenting in the Balkans" conference.CARE International Balkans and its regional partners organized a conference on MenCare, fatherhood, and caregiving in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 11-13.

The goal of the conference, “Fatherhood and Gender-Equitable Parenting in the Balkans: Practice, Policy and Research,” is to promote best practices and policies that support fathers and caregivers to be more actively engaged in all aspects of childcare and home life. It was designed for government policymakers and gender justice organizations to come together to assess progress and next steps in the Balkans to develop more inclusive policies that promote gender-equitable and nonviolent fatherhood and caregiving.

The conference’s featured speaker is Gary Barker, International Director of Equimundo, who is presenting results and recommendations from the first ever State of the World’s Fathers report. The conference includes other international speakers and guests from Turkey, Bulgaria, Switzerland, and other Balkans countries.

This conference is part of the “Boys and Men as Allies in Violence Prevention and Gender Transformation in the Western Balkans” initiative, which focuses on engaging boys and men in the promotion of gender equality and the prevention of all forms of violence. Through this initiative, CARE and partners launched the “Super Dad” campaign in 2015, as part of the global MenCare campaign. The conference is organized by CARE International Balkans, in partnership with local non-governmental organizations and with the support of CARE Norway, Austrian Development Corporation, the Swiss Government, and the Oak Foundation.
